Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Boise ID

.UPDATE...Updated aviation discussion.
&&
.KEY MESSAGES...
- Above normal temperatures continuing through next week.
- Tuesday is the hottest day and will be accompanied by gusty
winds and very dry conditions.
- A chance of showers and thunderstorms returns to the area
next Friday.
&&
.SHORT TERM /Through Tuesday Night/...
Issued 306 AM MDT SUN JUN 14 2026
An upper level ridge building along the coast will keep the
region under a dry northwest flow through Monday night. A weak
upper wave embedded in the flow will bring some passing clouds
across southeast Oregon and southwest Idaho late Monday into
Monday night. However, stable conditions aloft will cap any
chance for precipitation, ensuring dry weather persists.
Temperatures will trend warmer through Monday, with afternoon
highs climbing a few degrees above seasonal normals. Winds will
follow typical diurnal patterns, becoming light and variable
overnight.
By Tuesday, the upper ridge axis moves closer to the region,
making it the warmest day of the week. Valley locations are
expected to reach into the mid to upper 90s. At the same time, a
Canadian trough passing to our north will begin to flatten the
ridge and tighten the surface pressure gradient. This setup will
generate strong and gusty winds starting Tuesday afternoon and
continuing through Tuesday night. The combination of hot
temperatures, low relative humidity, and increasing winds will
bring elevated to critical fire weather conditions to the BLM
lands of southwest Idaho.
&&
.LONG TERM /Wednesday through Sunday/...
Issued 306 AM MDT SUN JUN 14 2026
A tight pressure gradient remains across southwest Idaho
continuing the stronger winds on Wednesday. Gusty winds combined
with very low humidity will maintain critical fire weather
conditions across the BLM lands of southwest Idaho through
Wednesday evening. As the trough exits, the ridge opens back up
by Friday. This will allow temperatures to climb back into the
low to mid 90s in the lower valleys. A weak low moving in from
the south late Friday evening may bring enough moisture for a
slight chance of thunderstorms along the Nevada border Friday
night, spreading into central Idaho on Saturday. Zonal flow
follows the exiting trough which will bring cooler temperatures
for the weekend though they will still remain about 8 degrees
above normal.
&&
.AVIATION /18Z Sunday through Monday/...
